Tapesia: The department of Social Work, ADBU organised an Exhibition cum Sale of art and craft by the students of the Swastyayan – a student accompaniment programme with an aim of motivating students of neighbourhood to unleash their creative potentials here today Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the ADBU Cafe in Tapesia, Sonapur. The event was a product of the workshops on art and craft, and skills development activities that a team of students of Social Work ADBU – Ms. Gisel Erumachadathu, Ms. Alinisa Boro and Ms. Cherfully Nongrum have been carrying out in the villages around the ADBU campus.
Swastyayan is a social commitment initiative of started by the Department of Social Work, ADBU in 2012 and aimed at ‘enhancing the academic, social and psychological life of the students around the university campus. It organised tutorial classes on Maths, Science and English, personality development workshops and counselling sessions for youth and families and continues till today’ according to Mr. Victor Narzary, Assistant Professor ADBU.
“It feels great to volunteer with Swastyayan as it provides opportunity to develop our sense of social commitment backed by theories taught in classrooms with challenges from the field” said Ms. Alinisha Boro a student Social Worker involved in the project. According to Ms. Cherfully Nongrum another stuent volunteer ‘the project gives 360o exposure to challenges of Social Work in actual field setting.’ Ms. Gisel Erumachadathu speaks of ‘making life more reflective and ready to face challenges in future.’
The programme was attended by over 20 students from the Sonapur neighborhood area with couple of parents and relatives.
The programme is the first batch of students in the Sonapur Campus. It started in 2012 in its old Azara campus which continues till today. In all about 200 students benefit each year of the programme.
